Alma Osorio grew up in El Salvador and arrived in the U.S. in September of 2006. She graduated from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in 2010. ?While attending John Jay, Alma was an active volunteer through New York Cares and also served as a math tutor at a community center in the Bronx. Today, Alma is attending Mount Holyoke College (MHC) majoring in Politics with a minor in Law and Public Policy. Alma loves languages, and as a member of the Italian Club, she has immersed herself in learning Italian and plans to study abroad in Italy in the summer 2011. She is also a member of La Unidad, an organization that promotes unity and exposure to Latin-American culture in the MHC community. Upon graduation, Alma would like to earn a law degree. As an attorney and policy maker, Alma would like to influence U.S. Government immigration policies while advocating and representing the needs of immigrant communities. She would like to open a community center where recent immigrants can get English instruction, receive legal advice, and referrals to resources that will enable them to attain higher levels of education and achieve economic stability.
