Kaplan Leadership Program Scholars
Norberto Taveras is pursuing a Master's Degree at the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College and expects to graduate in May 2012 with a specialization in health and mental health. Norberto completed a degree in Social Work at the Silver School of Social Work at New York University in 2011. In addition to having his own private practice as a Clinical Social Worker, Norberto seeks to establish a non-profit organization that advocates and provides direct services to ensure adequate accommodations for the disabled. Norberto graduated with an associate's degree in liberal arts from Hostos Community College in 2009. While at Hostos, he was a proud participant of the College Discovery Program, which awarded him with Academic Excellence Awards and received the Silver Award for Academic Excellence from the Department of Modern Languages. He also earned First Place at El Diario la Prensa's Speech Competition in Spanish, and received First Place for the HCC Women's Studies Essay Competition. Norberto was inducted into PTK, the international honor society for two-year colleges, and Sigma Delta Mu, the Honor Society of the Humanities.
