Sharrise Simmons is a Biology major at George Washington University. Sharrise holds an associate's degree in Liberal Arts from the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC), which she completed in 2008. Sharrise aspires to join the medical research field and has particular interest in treatments for sickle cell anemia and public health issues that affect underserved communities. While at BMCC she was the only community college student accepted to participate in the McNair/C-STEP Scholars Research program at Clarkson University . She spent summer there working with a team conducting research on a methodology to flush out toxins in patients who have overdosed. Sharrise was a project leader for the BMCC chapter of the New York Public Interest Research Group's (NYPIRG) environmental campaign.
