While growing up in Nigeria, Qudus Lawal became aware of the lack of reliable sources of energy. He was alarmed by his country’s dependence on oil, its damaging effects on the environment, and its contribution to political rifts in the region. While majoring in Engineering at Hostos Community College, Qudus also served as the president of the Science Club. During the summer of 2010, Qudus was selected to conduct scientific research in energy for the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation and graduated in 2011 as the Valedictorian of his class. Currently, Qudus is a Chemical Engineering major at Stanford University, where he would like to begin to focus on green energy and bringing developing countries the technology necessary to tap into the natural resources of the earth without damaging the environment.
