Nolvia Delgado> graduated from Smith College with a degree in Government, concentrating in Third World Development with a focus in Latin America. Nolvia believes in the transformative power of education and is an avid supporter of educational equity at an international level. Through A Mother's Wish Foundation, Nolvia interned at Pequeños Pasitos, a clinic and community center in her native Dominican Republic. She has also interned at the Dominican Stock Exchange and worked with various organizations to fundraise and bring awareness to issues affecting low-income communities. While at Smith, Nolvia served as Conference Chair for Nosotras, an organization that seeks a deeper understanding of Latino culture and issues affecting the Latino community in higher education and beyond. Nolvia was elected Student Senator and Junior Class Representative and Moderator for the Advisement Curriculum Development Focus group at Smith. Nolvia was also named a Smith Urban Education Fellow, and worked closely with faculty, staff and students in her former high school to assess and strengthen college access. She has also worked as a legislative assistant for New York State Assemblyman Vito Lopez. Before transferring to Smith, Nolvia graduated from the Borough of Manhattan Community College in 2009 with an associate's degree in Liberal Arts. While at BMCC, Nolvia was selected for the Latinas Learning to Lead Program where she continued to develop her leadership skills. In the summer of 2008, Nolvia attended the Exploring Transfer Program at Vassar College. Currently Nolvia works for the Kaplan Educational Foundation's Leadership Program, where she serves as a role model to current students and arduously supports the development of program scholars, while strengthening relationships with community colleges and four-year institutions.
