Born and raised in Kenya, Gary Waiyaki is a science major at Borough of Manhattan Community College. He served as a volunteer at Lutheran Hospital in Brooklyn and was an active participant of the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (C-STEP) which provides resources and opportunities to students from low-income families and minority groups that are interested in science. Today, Gary is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Neuroscience at theUniversity of Rochester while minoring in African American Studies. Gary believes that the lack of access to educational resources (e.g., nutrition, health, higher education/trade skills) is a major contributor to the many conflicts that exist within African countries and the world. Gary is also fascinated with the anatomy of the brain and as such would like to become a neurosurgeon. In addition to his desire to becoming a Neurosurgeon, Gary would like to play an active role in engaging families in healthy living which includes educational opportunities, access to medical resources and tools to navigate health care systems.
